The EPDM film is an elasticated elastomer membrane made of EPDM rubber with self-adhesive as a bonding and assembly aid. It is used for external sealing.
Application area:
The EPDM outer film is 1.2 mm thick and is used to seal the exterior bottom connections of doors and floor-level windows in outer walls and conservatories. It is also used to seal connections in roofs and balconies.
The 0.75 mm thick version of the exterior EPDM film is ideal for the external sealing of construction elements in the façade area and for sealing underneath window sills.
Advantages:
Water-repellent yet permeable to water vapour
Very good elasticity
Outstanding resistance to UV and weathering
Extreme temperature resistance
Design:
With self-adhesive strips
Advice:
Application:
The adhesive surfaces must be load-bearing and stable. The surfaces must be free from dust, release agents, oil, grease, moisture and ice.
Cut the EPDM film to the desired length. The self-adhesive strip acts as an installation aid for fixing the EPDM film and should be bonded to the base material over its entire area. Glue the surfaces of the film and/or the base material to be bonded using EPDM film adhesive (art. no.: 0898 800 010) by applying the film adhesive to the base material in a bead of approx. 5 mm without interruption.
Then press the EPDM film into the adhesive layer without applying any pressure and loosen it again if necessary so that the solvents can flash off from the adhesive on larger surfaces. Then glue the film to the designated base material and carefully press it using a press-on roller (art. no.: 0693 603 002).
The adhesive properties of EPDM films may vary so it is always advisable to perform tests beforehand. Film overlaps must be at least 50 mm in width. If necessary, carry out further bonding to prevent the film from slipping.
The EPDM film must always be installed without tension. On windows, the film is also mounted using a clamping batten, socket rail or other fastening, as described in DIN 18195.
EPDM films are not suitable for sealing against pressurised water and cannot be plastered or painted over. The film is generally compatible with bitumen substrates that are commonly used in construction.
