DRYER FILTERS

For heavy vehicles (lorries, trailers, buses), air is essential for the operation of some major mechanisms such as the suspension system (air springs) and the brake system.
The efficiency of these systems is essential: their main enemies are moisture/condensation and all oil mists deriving from the normal use of the vehicle. Standard dryer filters are suitable for keeping systems dry from moisture and condensation.
Given that the unretained oil mist particles often cause damage to systems and components (valves, compressors, solenoids, etc.), some heavy vehicle manufacturers have developed a new technology for dryer filters together with filter manufacturers, known as: coalescing dryer filters.
The function of coalescing dryer filters is substantially the same as a normal dryer, but differs in the way it separates particles:
– In normal dryer filters, the granule traps moisture (the granule regenerates itself).
– Coalescing filters capture moisture droplets, thanks to a pre-filter (known as the coalescing element), and retain oil particles present in the system air.
Caution: The coalescing dryer filter does not regenerate, so when “full” it must be replaced.
These types of dryer filters, when regularly replaced, keep the air systems of vehicles unchanged over time.
In addition, it is not possible to replace a normal dryer filter with a coalescing dryer filter, as manufacturers dictate the specifications.
