LOCTITE 5940 BLACK ACETATE SILICONE

GENERAL PURPOSE ADHESIVE SEALANT

LOCTITE® SI 5940™ cures on exposure to moisture in the air to form a tough, flexible, oil-resistant seal. This sealant is primarily used for general use, as a space-filling adhesive or formed-in-place gasket. It adheres to clean metal, glass, silicone resins, vulcanised rubber, ceramic, natural and synthetic fibres, and many plastic and painted surfaces. This adhesive is normally used in applications with an operating temperature range of -50°C to 200°C and can intermittently reach temperatures up to 220°C.

Application area:

Bonding, Sealing and Gasket Replacement.

Field of Application:

Moulded sheet metal oil sump; tappet cover. Caution: not compatible with electronic components.

Advantages:

Excellent resistance to ageing, shrinkage, cracking and discolouring. Solvent-free. Resistant to engine oil up to 250°C.

Instructions:

1. For best performance, bond surfaces should be clean and free of grease.
2. Moisture curing begins immediately after the product is exposed to the atmosphere, therefore parts to be assembled should be mated within a few minutes after the product is dispensed.
3. The bond should be allowed to cure (e.g. seven days) before subjecting to heavy service loads.
4. Excess product can be easily wiped away with non-polar solvents.

Advice:

This product is not recommended for use in pure oxygen and/or oxygen-rich systems and should not be selected as a sealant for chlorine or other strong oxidising materials.

The curing process may cause corrosion to some surfaces.
LOCTITE® SI 5940™ is not recommended for use as a cylinder head gasket sealant.
